Waterfall - humans for scale

First stop, First learnings

I know you out there are waiting for some news, so I’ll write an update.

The Trip from Hamburg/Berlin to Sofia was pretty smooth. Right plane, right taxi, all good. I didn’t had real expectations before I came here, but where I ended up, shocked me, for the first days.

My hostel was located in a back-house in an „ok“-area like my friendly taxi-driver said. It is operating for 14 years now. A lot of the things Inside also looked and felt like that. Coming from a well equipped and mostly modern flat I needed some days to get used to it.
The staff-members where nice, but a group of 6 people arriving at 1:30 at night, showering and yelling next door were killing my night.

Flying one way to WordCamp Europe

Flying one Way … to WordCamp Europe

The big step is done. I left Hamburg, Germany and my life as it was until now. So this is the beginning.
From now on I’ll travel to get to know new people and new places. And there is just one way to go: Forward.

Until now this trip to Sofia feels mostly like every other trip to a WordCamp or conference. I know in the back of my head, that there is no flat waiting for me to return. The flat and a lot of things inside were part of my past, what kept me from going forward. I feel very relaxed and positive about what to come.

Wenn die Küche auszieht

Things are getting real

Today my flatmate moved out including most of the things for the kitchen and the shared livingroom. Right now is the first time I really feel a physical change in giving up my flat and my permanent resident in Hamburg. Terminating you phone or electricity never seams to have consequences until now.

There are about 20 days left before my flight to Sofia takes of. In this time I now want to sell nearly everything left. So if you just moved into a new flat or someone around you need stuff, let me know. I’ll also will post a list of available things.

But I’m still not sad about it. And I’m looking forward to celebrate my birthday next week one more/last time in this flat.

Let’s do it! – I’ll be a digital nomad soon

A lot of people are talking about it, nearly all say it must be an awesome thing. I started reading RSS-Feeds about it just for fun. Which became a more and more long list of feeds. I also started talking about it and was making up small dreams about it in my head. By staying for a longer weekend at my family or friends house I tested working while not being at home. I started down-sizing my stuff and stopped buying things you can’t eat or drink or are irrelevant to my business and realized that I would be able to live like that. To validate it I did a short test-stay in Copenhagen in May.

The decision

Including some other reasons it got time for me to make some decisions for the future. And so I decided to leave my loved Hamburg to see Europe and the rest of the World. To me it’s not a run for a lot of countries in a short timespan. I want to get to know the daily life and work in different countries starting in Europe. Therefor I plant to stay for a month or even longer.
